These are difficult and unusual times for everyone, but for those who are separated or their relationship is breaking down, it can be even more trying.
Many people might have already agreed to separate but continue living in the same home until it can be sold. This is never easy but, under normal circumstances, it is possible to get out and socialise with family or friends. It is important to have ground rules about occupation of parts of the house and use of the television and computer. Try to agree in advance before it becomes a flashpoint. Try to avoid any conflict if possible, even if it means biting your tongue. Be respectful to each other.
This period may cause cracks which were already forming in a relationship to grow and cause it to break apart.
Relationships can become very toxic. If you feel unsafe, we can take steps to help protect you and your children.
For separated parents, this period will be hard. Children may have to remain in the care of one parent through self-isolation or enforced lockdown. Children should be actively encouraged to remain in regular contact with the other parent by telephone or video messaging.
Financial arrangements will cause anxiety. The economy will recover but there may be longer term effects on businesses and employment.
