At Harrogate Family Law, we know that the biggest challenges are rarely faced alone and that’s certainly true for Freddy Wharton as he prepares to take on a fundraising challenge.

Freddy will be running a marathon in support of Candlelighters, a fantastic Yorkshire-based charity supporting children with cancer and their families. And as a firm, we’re proud to be right behind him every step of the way.

From idea to reality

What began as a personal goal quickly turned into something more meaningful.

“I wanted to do a marathon and it seemed like a good challenge,” Freddy explains. “I was lucky enough to get a ballot place – it’s essentially a lottery – so it felt like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

Choosing to support Candlelighters gave that opportunity real purpose – helping raise vital funds for a cause that makes a difference to families across the region.

A year in the making

Freddy’s journey hasn’t been straightforward.

After initially securing his place, he was forced to defer due to knee surgery. Now, as race day approaches, the milestone is even more significant.

“It will be almost exactly a year and a day since my operation,” he says.

That makes this challenge not just about endurance but about determination, recovery and resilience.

How’s training going?

Marathon training is no small undertaking at the best of times.

When asked how it’s going, Freddy says  “Well … I think… I hope!”

Balancing training alongside work and coming back from injury makes this an even greater achievement. And it’s one the whole HFL team is getting behind.

Supporting every step

At Harrogate Family Law, we’re proud to support colleagues not just in their professional roles, but in the challenges and causes that matter to them outside the office too.

Freddy’s commitment to both his recovery and his fundraising is something we’re all cheering on and we’re delighted to be supporting him as he prepares to cross that finish line.
